After 15 years of operating in Malaysia, with many stores opening up across the country — up to 67 to-date, Daiso Malaysia Group (Daiso Malaysia) took the next step to solidify its presence in Selangor as it announced the development of its newest Global Distribution Centre (GDC) at Port Klang.
Daiso Malaysia, along with its investor partners, made this announcement during the partnership signing between Kajima Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd. The coming together of the two created a new joint-venture, Kajima-SunCon to oversee the approved implementation of designing and constructing the all-new Daiso GDC.

The total investment from Daiso is RM1 billion (~USD211 million) and will be deploying its in-house developed automated storage and retrieval systems. This investment, beyond increasing container traffic at all connected ports in Klang, will boost job opportunities and the economic growth of all related sectors.
Operating in Pulau Indah — the main logistics hub for Port Klang — the GDC will be the largest of its kind for Daiso Industries Co Ltd (Daiso) and is the follow-up to the regional distribution centre that Daiso established in 2019 with PKT Logistics.

Seiji Yano, President and Representative Director, Daiso, who had been present at the signing, strongly believes the new facility will become a keystone distribution hub for Daiso.
“As the last automated warehouse to be built, it is the largest one globally — covering approximately 130,000sqm. Its primary role will focus on inbound logistitcs of products from Japan and China as well as manage outbound distribution to 22 countries across Asia and the Middle East,” he said.
Amirudin Shari, Selangor Chief Minister, along with senior leadership from Daiso Malaysia and Sunway Construction, had also been present.
“I understand that once this new centre is fully operational, it will be Daiso’s largest warehousing platform, even larger than its home in Hiroshima, Japan. This hub is strategically positioned to increase the (logistics) efficiency of Daiso’s global supply chain. It is (certainly) aligned to Selangor’s vision of elevating its position as a Southeast Asia hub for trade and logistics,” said Amirudin.
Development of Daiso’ new GDC is expected to start sometime in May 2024 with an expected completion date in May 2026. Daiso Malaysia confirmed it will likely commence operations in January 2027.
“This new GDC is a testament to our unwavering dedication to logistics excellence and our commitment to fostering economic growth within the local community,” said Mohd Khairul Adib, Chairman, Daiso Malaysia.
With the upcoming GDC, Daiso leadership believes it will not only create demand for labour across the entire logistics supply chain but also foster a sense a stability within the local community.
