One of the critical first steps for Malaysia’s newly introduced National Energy Transition Roadmap is the recent announcement that HEXA Renewables will build a 1-GigaWatt solar photovoltaic plant with UEM Group and ITRAMAS Corp.

This came about through the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing between UEM Group (UEM), ITRAMAS Corporation (ITRAMAS), and group of foreign investors. One of the main thrusts of this agreement is to have the new solar plant be fully integrated with the renewable energy industrial park that it will be residing in.

The mixed local-foreign engagement brings the very best in expertise to the partnership as UEM Group is focused on green economy development, while ITRAMAS is one of the largest vertically integrated solar power plant developer; engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning provider; and solutions delivery in Malaysia. As for the foreign investors, they consist of partners that have an existing relationship with ITRAMAS – HEXA Renwables, an energy subsidiary of I Squared Capital; China Machinery Engineering Wuxi (CMECWUXI); and Blueleaf Energy.

In a joint statement that had been released just hours after Malaysia Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, launched the Madani Economic Framework, the signatories for this new 1-GigaWatt Solar Plant shared how they believe this is in line with the newly revealed National Energy Transition Roadmap.

The same statement also confirmed that ITARAMAS, alongside CMECWUXI, will be anchor tenants for this renewable energy industrial park and the initial green electricity off-takers.

For UEM, this project is a step in the right direction as it is aligned to Malaysia’s aspiration of becoming a regional leader for renewable energy.

Working closely with ITRAMAS and its partners – Blueleaf Energy, CMECWUXI, and HEXA Renewables, UEM is not only committed to invest and develop Malaysia’s renewable energy assets. This includes pledging to up-skill local talents who are working in the renewable energy industry, boost job creation, and plan and implement knowledge transfer.

As for ITRAMAS, this initiative will be one of the strategic catalysts that will propel Malaysia to become a regional leader within the renewable energy segment.

Its Managing Director, Lee Choo Boo, shared how the group and its partners are fully committed to ensure the resounding success of this flagship energy transition project for Malaysia.
