CelcomDigi — just over a year after completing the merger between Celcom Axiata (Celcom) and Digi Telecommunications (Digi) — have been quick to sign on new ecosystem partners, SoftBank Crop and SC-NEX, to expand and accelerate their efforts with digitalising Malaysian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)

The collaboration will see CelcomDigi, via the CelcomDigi Innovation Centre, working closely with SoftBank and SC-NEX — a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation and their expertise in specific industries. This includes artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and analytic solutions that both companies originally provided when they have been separate entities.

“This partnership opens many possibilities for Malaysian enterprises to gain faster access to transformative technologies and help them unlock the true potential of their businesses. Our goal is to help more businesses with their digital transformation, enabling them to remain competitive in today’s digital economy,” said Idham Nawawi, CEO, CelcomDigi.

With the three-way collaboration, CelcomDigi will first focus on exploring and developing dronetech and AI for agritech and smart city solutions. While the press alert did reveal what sort of innovation will be created or deployed, it did confirm that this partnership has extensive plans.

As for both Japanese entities, the collaboration with CelcomDigi is seen as a step forward with their plans to drive forward digital transformation for Malaysia SMEs. They are also keen on investing and powering sustainable growth for Malaysia’s digital economy.
