Global expansion usually requires a large springboard to push into multiple markets. For Korean-based start-up, Y&Archer, it moved to open its first overseas operations in Malaysia.
This move, which was announced on July 11 2023, affirms Malaysia as the go-to for start-up development. In fact, the Korean start-up accelerator will use its new Malaysian operations to drive its global expansion efforts. Part of the new opening for Y&Archer Malaysia includes appointing its Country Manager, Hafiz Khairi. A former Investment Manager for Securities Commission Malaysia, he will be bringing in his

“We are excited to work with early-stage companies in Malaysia as well as connecting both Malaysian and South Korean tech ecosystem for countless cross border opportunities,” Hafiz shared on his LinkedIn post.
According to EDAILY, Korea’s largest online newspaper with key focuses on economic news, Y&Archer will bring its acceleration and start-up support experience to Malaysia. This includes its consultation processes, onboarding programme, and extensive support infrastructure for start-ups and businesses that are looking to scale.

“With the new Malaysian branch, we will be planning for mutual exchanges (for the local start-up ecosystem) and apply (what we’ve learnt from) our success stories in Korea to Malaysia’s start-ups and (do the same) with local successes with Korea. We also want to (take the positive) results of these mutual exchanges to other overseas markets and invest in local start-ups as well,” shared Y&Archer to EDAILY.
Functions that Y&Archer will bring to Malaysia include:
- Discover and support local start-ups through its publication platform
- Provide localised consulting and investment insights
- Engage and manage entry of Korean start-ups into Malaysia and offering similar capabilities to Malaysian start-ups

Besides Malaysia, Y&Archer will also be opening offices in Bangkok, Thailand and Singapore. With the former, it is looking at September 2023 to officially open its doors there, while the latter has no fixed timeline yet. Both, along with Malaysia, will continue to expand and reinforce the global presence of Y&Archer.
